The Buck Institute for Education states that PBL, or Project Based Learning, is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.
At Tussahaw, each grade level is working as a team, implementing PBL/authentic learning into their lessons. Students will study over days and weeks, doing research and coming up with solutions to the challenges presented. The final product may be a public service announcement, poster, essay, business plan, blog, running a canned food drive, or a webpage - the sky is the limit! Students are working through their grade level standards and curriculum to answer such questions as "how would the world be affected if there were no plants?" or "how could we, as young people, help those affected by natural disasters?".
