My name is Karla Coppinger and I am the School Counselor at Pleasant Grove Elementary. I am original from Knoxville, Tennessee but have lived in Miami, Florida and Fort Worth, Texas which led me to McDonough, Georgia. I am married to my husband, Chuck and we have 3 children, Everett, Bronwyn, and Camille.
I am a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a Bachelors in Psychology. I obtained my Master’s degree in School Counseling from the University of the Southwest in New Mexico. I am honored to be the School Counselor at Pleasant Grove. This profession allows me to advocate and enrich the students at PGE in the areas of SOCIAL EMOTIONAL learning, CAREER exploration and COLLEGE readiness while aligning with our ASCA national standards. This year I will be conducting small groups and individual counseling and events such as Red Ribbon week, Kindness week, Career day, Bullying Prevention month, Speak Up, Be Safe, Milestones Test Talks and Backpack Buddies.
This year we are excited to continue SECOND STEP. SECOND STEP is a program rooted in social-emotional learning (SEL) that helps transform schools into supportive, successful learning environments uniquely equipped to encourage children to thrive. More than just a classroom curriculum, SECOND STEP’S holistic approach helps create a more empathetic society by providing education professionals, families, and the larger community with tools to enable them to take an active role in the social-emotional growth and safety of today’s children. This program will be taught by me during your student’s Core Curriculum Counseling and implemented daily by your student’s classroom teachers. We are all eager to see how our students will thrive with this new program and hope that you will be too. To learn more about Second Step, please visit www.secondstep.org.
I look forward to watching your student grow socially and academically during the school year. If you need to get in touch with me, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the school directly at 770-898-0176
