    Welcome Message

Welcome to Advanced Mathematical Decision Making and your fourth year of high school math!  This will be my 10th year teaching AMDM and I truly enjoy teaching seniors.  AMDM is not your typical math class of graphing functions and solving for x.  AMDM is a math course that will teach you how to problem solve and make decisions about math in everyday life. Students in AMDM do not walk out of class saying “when am I ever going to use this in real life.”  For instance, if you were in charge of prom, could you estimate how big of a location we would need for all the juniors, seniors, and guest to fit safely? We also have a unit which addresses speedometer and odometer problems after replacing stock tires/wheels with larger ones. Near the end of the year we will address finances, budgeting, along with car and home loans. You will learn the difference between simple and compound interest, computing student loan payments and interest, and the good and bad of using credit cards. Solving real math problems is what the AMDM course is all about. We usually have guest speakers from the community who assist with this.

If you or a family member need help getting started this year in the remote learning environment, Henry County has put together a video to help you.  For Student Portal Infinite Campus, Launchpad, Google Classroom, Google Calendar, and how to log into your Chromebook, please click this link: https://sites.google.com/henry.k12.ga.us/ohsstudent/student-essential-videos

If you or a family member have questions or just want to introduce yourself to me, you can contact me in one of two ways.  The first way is to email me at kbagley@henry.k12.ga.us.  If you are more comfortable with Google Classroom, send me a message through that app.  If you want to talk to me in more of a Face-to-Face environment, we can set up a Google Meeting but you will need to contact me through email first. I do share class time with Ms. Tate. You will regularly see her, or both she and I teaching and assisting students. It is a great resource to have two teachers to assist you and the rest of the class. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have a question or concern about anything. I am here to help in any way that I can.

The AMDM Syllabus is designed to give more details about the AMDM course this year.  You can find it on my Ola High School webpage at this link: https://schoolwires.henry.k12.ga.us/Page/119417

This school year is off to a very different start.  If students need extra help my office hours are from 1:45 – 3:15 pm every Tuesday and Thursday.  Since you can’t just drop by my classroom for extra help, send me an email, and I will send you a Google Meet code to join. Should you need assistance outside of this time, please let me know. There is always a way to assist students needing help.

Students: what do you do before your scheduled class time?  Make sure you have your school issued Chromebook charged up and ready to go.  Make sure you have paper, a writing tool, and calculator available at your workstation.  Make sure you are dressed as if you were going to school because dress code rules still apply and we are requesting your camera be on during class instruction.  Log in to Infinite Campus and click present for class period.  Log in to Google Classroom and click on the meeting link on the Classroom Banner.  Further directions will be posted for each day on Google Classroom.

As your last high school math teacher, I want your senior year to be enjoyable and successful.  Before we know it, you will be walking across that stage in cap and gown.  Let me know how I can help you be successful this year.

    Sincerely,

    Kevin Bagley
