• Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome to a new year at the Academy for Advanced Studies. I am pleased and honored to be your child’s English Language Arts trainer. I look forward to working with my associates and their families this year. I pledge that if you participate in our exploration, I will do my best to make learning interesting, meaningful, and fun!

For those of you that have not met me, I began my teaching career in 2014 after working in the legal field for many years. I received my Master’s of Education from Liberty University in 2013; I received my AP Language and Composition certification, as well as my AP Literature and Composition certification in 2018, and I received my Gifted certification in 2019.

Every associate will be challenged every day with rigorous and meaningful instruction that is aligned with the District’s and the State’s content standards. I demand excellence from all of my associates and expect that every associate will put forth his or her best effort every day. This type of learning, however, can only take place with the full cooperation of all involved.

Each child is a gift that should be nurtured, and I will do my best to help him/her grow emotionally and intellectually. I believe this growth can happen by examining the issues we will cover in class. Words are powerful, and how we use them determines our level of success. The main goal of my course is to ensure each student becomes an effective communicator. For this semester, we will work on our reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

Additional information about your child’s class is in my syllabus; I will send home a copy for you to read and discuss with your child. Please refer to my school web site often (https://schoolwires.henry.k12.ga.us) for updated classroom information.

Regular communication is essential for success; please reach out to me if you have questions or concerns. I am available for phone calls (by appointment, please) every Tuesday and Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 and every Wednesday from 3:00 to 3:30; however, feel free to reach out to me any time via email at marsha.dryden@henry.k12.ga.us; to schedule an appointment, please contact your child’s counselor.

On a final note, THANK YOU for allowing me to be a part of this amazing journey!
