Henry County School System Receives 2012 EOCT Results
HENRY COUNTY, GA – Henry County Schools received the high school End of Course Test (EOCT) results Tuesday after their release by the Georgia Department of Education. The summative scores released show an increase for students across tested subjects when it pertains to meeting or exceeding standards and ranking above state averages. The subjects tested are American Literature, biology, economics, mathematics I and II, physical science, US history, and 9th grade literature and composition.
A goal of 100% of Henry County Schools’ students meeting or exceeding testing standards for the EOCT and other tests remains the system’s goal. According to the data released, out of the eight subject areas tested, Henry County Schools showed advantages over state averages for meets and exceeds numbers in seven subjects. The average point differential was 3 points, with the highest margin being 6 points difference in 9th grade literature and composition. The school system was slightly behind the state average in the mathematics II subject area.
Gains in the percentages of students exceeding standards from 2011 to 2012 occurred in six of the subjects tested, with the highest gain in students exceeding displayed in physical science at 6 points. The percentage of students exceeding standards in economics remained at 31%, while the percentages of students exceeding standards in American literature decreased by 2 points. Dr. Ethan Hildreth, Superintendent of the Henry County School System, stated, “We are pleased to see our students continuing to perform at greater levels in the meets and exceeds category.”
“The fact that we exceeded state averages for students meeting and exceeding in seven out of eight subjects is encouraging. At the same time, we recognize that there is further work to be done to ensure that all students meet and exceed standards.”
