Third Annual JROTC Pass in Review Held at Henry County High School
Local, state
dignitaries present for cadet parade and awards ceremony
HENRY COUNTY,
GA – Pageantry and decorum were the order of the afternoon for the third annual
Henry County Schools’ JROTC Pass in Review held on April 26 at Henry County
High School’s Warhawk Football Stadium.
The Junior
Reserve Officer Training Corps, or JROTC for short, currently has seven units
in Henry County Schools, and each unit was present and accounted for on the
field before local and state dignitaries.
There are a total of five Naval JROTC programs and two Air Force JROTC
programs in the school system.
State School
Superintendent Richard Woods was on hand as part of the reviewing party for the
ceremony. He and Henry County Schools
Superintendent Rodney Bowler offered words of encouragement to the cadets and
congratulations to all guests in attendance who were there in support.
Over 250
cadets representing Dutchtown, Eagle’s Landing, Henry County (Academy for
Advanced Studies), Luella, Ola, Stockbridge, and Union Grove high schools took
part in the ceremony which also saw members of the Board of Education and local
government officials on hand as members of the reviewing party.
Henry County
Schools has a proud tradition of excellence throughout its JROTC programs.
Examples of this include:
- Naval JROTC units have won six of the previous seven
Naval National Orienteering Championships and multiple All-Service National
Orienteering Championships.
- Naval JROTC units have finished in the Top 5
of the National Brain Brawl Championship since its inception.
- Air rifle teams have won both GHSA state
championships and national championships with multiple shooting records being
set by local students.
- Air Force JROTC units have placed at state and
national levels for drill team competitions as well as Cyber Patriot
competitions.
There were
more than 600 individual certificates handed out during the event. These certificates were given to cadets
earning recognition for various events at state and national competitions.
In addition
to the cadet review, there were presentations by the Eagle’s Landing High
School unarmed drill team as well as the high school’s band performing
pre-ceremony music and the National Anthem.
Superintendent
Bowler shared his overall excitement for the event and remarked how valuable these
programs are to the school system.
“I am extremely
proud of the hard work and amazing results our JROTC units have accomplished
this year and in years past,” said Bowler.
“They do a great job upholding the mission and standards of their
respective service units, but they do an equally outstanding job representing
our school system and embodying our mission of ensuring success for each
student. Those students entering into
the JROTC programs leave our schools with so much opportunity afforded them due
to their hard work and commitment.”
