Henry County Schools Board of Education Earns Distinguished Honor
Local school board
earns GSBA’s second level of recognition
HENRY COUNTY,
GA – Henry County Schools is now served by a Distinguished Board according to
recent notification from the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA). The recognition was announced during the
recent GSBA and Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA) Conference in
Atlanta on December 5.
This marks
the second level of recognition received from GSBA as the Henry County Board of
Education works towards the highest recognition level – Exemplary School
Board. The recognition program was
designed to showcase best practices in school governance and leadership. GSBA recognizes good school board governance
to foster educational community cultures in order to advance student learning
and achievement.
Henry County
Schools’ Board of Education met and exceeded the criteria set forth by GSBA to
earn this honor of a 2014 Distinguished Board.
Only 52 school boards out of 180 around the state received this
recognition.
“We are
honored to have such dedicated members on our Board of Education,” said
Superintendent Rodney Bowler, “who work hard for the betterment of our school
system and the betterment of the community.
They are to be commended for answering the call to serve the public
through our mission of ensuring success for each student.”
The GSBA
Governance Team Recognition Program was developed by Georgia superintendents
and board members based on the state board of education’s standards for
effective governance to recognize exemplary leadership.
In 1998, the
Georgia School Boards Association was one of the first school board
associations in the nation to develop a program of standards for local boards
of education.
The GSBA
Board recognition program is a three-year, three-tiered program beginning with
the Quality Board status. For more
information on the program, you may visit the GSBA website for awards and
recognition at www.gsba.com. You can also find the criteria for all tiers
of the program.
