Hawk Feather Program

As part of the school wide discipline program, students in grades K5 are eligible to participate in the McDonough Elementary quarterly HawkFest event. Criteria to be invited to the event involve students earning feathers for extraordinary behavior and performance. Examples of such behavior may include helping a classmate who has dropped her books, holding the door open for your teacher, meeting your reading goal for the week, or mastering your multiplication facts. Students must earn 45 feathers per quarter to be eligible. At the end of the quarter, an extravagant HawkFest in which students are treated to such activities as Magic Shows, Moon Walks, Cookouts with the Principal, Carnivals, etc..

This type of behavioral incentive program focuses teacher and student efforts on the positive behaviors when students do well, rather than the negative misbehaviors.

By reinforcing these desired, positive behaviors, we hope to significantly reduce the number of negative or undesired behaviors occurring atMcDonough Elementary.

Each office referral a student receives will result in 5 feathers subtracted from his/her total. Only Administration can take feathers away from student.
