Welcome to Mathematics with Mrs. Nickerson!
I was born and raised in Ormond Beach, Florida, about 6 miles north of Daytona Beach. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Mercer University, in Macon, Georgia. I also completed my Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Furman University, in Greenville, South Carolina. Later, I received my Education Specialist degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University, in Maryville, Tennessee.
This year marks my 25th year as a classroom teacher. Because of the military, I have taught math in several states. My career in education began at Fort Stewart, GA, where I taught at Bradwell Institute for 5 years. My travels then took me and my family to Roswell, New Mexico, where I taught at Roswell High School for 2 years. The military transferred my husband to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and I joined him with our two daughters. When I left Kansas, I taught math at Leesville High School in Leesville, Louisiana. I stayed there for 2 years and then found my way to Henry County, by teaching at Eagle's Landing High School, where I taught math for 7 years, between 1995-2004. When I wasn't teaching at Eagle's Landing, I was teaching at Southside High School, in Greenville, South Carolina and Fort Knox High School, at Fort Knox, Kentucky. When my youngest daughter graduated from ELHS in 2004, I joined the staff at Patrick Henry High School. Currently, I am enjoying my 8th year at Patrick Henry. Out of all of my teaching experiences, by far, Patrick Henry has been the most challenging and rewarding!
I live in Ellenwood with my husband of 30 years, Thomas, who is a retired Army colonel, who gave service to this great country of ours for 30 years. I have two daughters, Rebecca, an OB/GYN at Emory, and Sarah, an ELHS graduate and soon to be an educator, too. Sarah is the mother of my 1st grandchild, Eli, who I am simply smitten with. Believe or not, both of my girls are married to great guys who are both named Brandon. I address them as Rebecca's Brandon and Sarah's Brandon. I am truly blessed to have my family and a career that allows me help educate today's youth and hopefully, to make a positive difference in their lives.
