From Ms. Laughridge
Thank you for visiting the East Lake Elementary School webpage! East Lake is a fantastic place to be where students are encouraged to, “Be brave. Be present. Be Awesome!” every single day. It is both a blessing and a privilege to be the principal of such an amazing school!
This school year begins my 20th year in education. Seventeen of those years have been in Henry County Schools. I spent ten years as a classroom teacher at both the elementary and middle school levels and eight years as an assistant principal at the elementary level. Last year was my first year as a principal. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Middle Grade Education, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and additional certifications in Elementary Education and Educational Leadership. I am elated to bring my skills and experience as an educational leader to East Lake Elementary.
On a personal note, I grew up in Clayton County but have lived in McDonough, more specifically the Kelleytown area, for seventeen years. My husband and I have four children, three of which have already graduated from Henry County Schools and one who is still attending Henry County Schools. We spend most of our summer family time enjoying water sports such as skiing, wakeboarding and tubing on Lake Sinclair. During the cooler months we like to work on home improvement projects and travel.
My primary goal as principal of East Lake Elementary is to provide leadership that will facilitate a strong connection between families and school as well as provide the necessary skills for students to become productive citizens in a vastly changing society. I believe teachers, parents and administrators all share the vitally important responsibility of guiding, nurturing and encouraging our children to become engaged and active learners. This is accomplished by establishing an academically challenging collaborative learning environment where expectations are high and learning is paramount. Children enter our school building with differing backgrounds and life experiences that make them unique individuals. Educators must meet students where they are and provide the necessary instruction and guidance for each student to reach his or her potential.
I look forward to serving as your principal for the 2016-2017 school year. Should you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me via phone, email or conference. My door is always open.
