Transportation Department to Host Bus Driver Job Fair
HENRY COUNTY, GA – The big yellow buses will be back in full operation in a little over five weeks, and the Henry County School System is seeking to hire more drivers to join their ranks.
In an effort to enhance the number of drivers for the system, the Transportation Department for Henry County Schools will be hosting a bus driver job fair from 9 a.m. until noon on Friday, June 9 at the Academy for Advanced Studies. The academy is located at 401 East Tomlinson Street in McDonough.
Those individuals interested in obtaining employment as a bus driver with the school system should complete an employment application prior to attending the job fair. The application can be found on the school system’s website (www.henry.k12.ga.us), or it can be completed in the Human Resource Services Department located in the administrative offices in McDonough.
The Henry County Schools Board of Education recently voted to increase the starting pay for bus drivers to $15 per hour.
For new applicants, by completing the entire hiring and training process and becoming a full-time driver for at least 30 days, those drivers can earn up to $750 in incentives beyond their regular wages.
All active employees are eligible to earn $250 for each new driver they refer who completes 90 days of full-time employment. Stellar attendance for all full-time drivers also has the potential to bring employees up to $375 extra on an annual basis.
“We’re excited about the upcoming school year and these new opportunities for our current drivers as well as any future drivers,” said Cliff Shearouse, Director of Transportation. “Our school board and district administrators recognize the important role our drivers have in the success of our school system, and we are appreciative of their efforts to help us recruit and retain quality, caring drivers.”

New Parent Notification App:
Transportation Services is in the process of implementing an application that will notify parents of their child’s bus status in the event the bus is delayed. We are using Infinite Campus to send text and emails to parents who choose to receive this information. If you want to receive these status updates and information regarding your child’s school bus, simply follow the instructions on the reverse side of this letter. This application requires you to “opt in” meaning you will need to sign in to Parent Portal and check to receive SMS text for the phone number you wish to receive this information. This will automatically include you in all text information regarding your child’s bus.
We are currently in the implementation phase and would like your feedback. Please feel free to share your thoughts as we want to develop an application that is best suited for our parents. Also, let me know how you like or dislike the information provided. You can reach me by phone, (770) 957-2025, or email, email@example.com. Thank you in advance for your help and support. Transportation Services Changes for School Year 2017-2018:
Transportation will continue to run a Three-Tier Bus Routing System for the 2017-2018 school year. This system is anchored by the separation of the three school levels on bus routes. Each school level will ride the bus independent of the other two levels. This Three-Tier system will also eliminate the need for the non-transportation zone which means all students will be eligible for school bus transportation.
After successful implementation of the three-tier bus routing system during the 2012-2013 school year and adjusting starting and ending times to accommodate the changes, the Henry County School System is making a few updates to the general starting and ending times for elementary, middle, and high schools for the upcoming school year.
2017-2018 General Bell Schedule
School Level Start End
Elementary 7:45 a.m. 2:25 p.m.
Middle 8:45 a.m. 3:55 p.m.
High 8:15 a.m. 3:15 p.m.
