Dear Parents:
Thank you for the opportunity to teach your child. If you are new to the community or you are returning for the new school year, we are glad to have you!
Here are some things that you will want to know about
All of our classrooms are standards-based. A standards-based classroom is a classroom where teachers and students have a clear understanding of the expectations (standards). They know what they are teaching/learning each day, why the day’s learning is an important thing to know, and how to do it. They also know they are working toward meeting standards throughout the year….that standards-based learning is a process not an event. You won’t see a lot of worksheets coming home. You will, however, have rubrics, task sheets, project work, progress reports, and report cards to inform you of your child’s progress and how you might support his/her learning at home.
Students in grades K-3rd will have a “standards-based” report card. If you go to our school website (http://schoolwires.henry.k12.ga.us/site/Default.aspx?PageID=17993) you will find the K-3rd grade report cards and parent rubrics. Grades 4 and 5 will move to standards-based reporting in the next two school years. Of course, I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher or me should you have ANY questions about your child’s progress of if we might be of service to you.
Your child’s safety is our first priority. In your child’s registration packet, there is a “WLE Fact Sheet” and other information about student transportation, student check-out procedures, visitors to our school, and other information that helps us to ensure the safety of your child. Please read this information carefully. Although some of our procedures might seem over the top to you, they are in place for a very important reason: a safe and orderly school environment!
We live in a community that is constantly growing and changing. While we make every effort to place your child in the class that he/she will be in for the entire school year, we will have to make class assignment changes based on student enrollment and academic needs. Class rolls are subject to change based on class enrollment. Unfortunately, this might happen after the start of the school year. Please know that we do not make these changes lightly and take every opportunity to make the transition as smooth as possible for our students, our families, and our staff.

You will want to stay up-to-date and informed. Our best tool for day to day and weekly communication is your child’s agenda. Please work with your child’s teacher to keep the lines of communication open. Make sure that you let us know of changes in address and phone numbers. Check our website for information about school happenings and curriculum information.
We want you. Through our P.T.O., mentoring program, school council, classroom volunteers, Title I curriculum nights, festivals, etc., there are a number of ways to be involved in our school community!
Again, welcome to
Sincerely,
Lori Squires, Principal
