As we begin the 2012-2013 school year, I want to encourage students and parents to stay committed to the educational goals you have set. I remind students often that "Success does not happen by chance; but by choice!" Students must make decisions that will lead to success. Every choice that is made (friends, quality of work, study habits, the amount of sleep they get, eating habits, etc.) will either lead to success or failure. Our goal is to educate our students by providing a variety of instructional strategies, assessing students frequently, and making adjustments to our instructional plans based on the results of the assessments. In addition to our academic goals, we also have behavioral goals and expectations. In all of our standards-based classrooms, one is GUARANTEED to see teachers and students actively involved in the lessons, word walls with current vocabulary, the instructional framework for the day's lesson, the essential question and standards posted, an instructional bulletin board that reflects current standards, student work posted-with meaningful commentary, and much more! You are invited to visit our classrooms at any time. At DMS, we have high expectations for our students. However, we will lead by example. Together (students, parents, school), we will continue to produce young adults who excel in academics, sports, and fine arts. Last year, we had a plethora of accomplishments which were directly related to our dedicated teachers and their hard work, students' motivation and effort, and the support and love from our parents and the community. While we will indeed celebrate our past success, we will continue to set standards to reach even higher goals. At DMS, we work hard but we play hard also! Students will enjoy the individual, team, grade level, and school incentives provided to them for their good behavior and grades. On a personal note, I am happily married to Jerald McCray; we have three children: Katina, Jalen, and Jade. I try to live by the words, "Let your life shine before men so that they may see your good works...." For additional information about DMS, please feel free to contact me by phone, in person, or email. Looking forward to Greater Things, Dr. Cynthia Bland McCray |
