We are excited for another AMAZING year in the gifted program at East Lake Elementary! This year East Lake will serve the gifted students through Gifted Exploratory. Gifted students are placed in homerooms that are taught by gifted certified teachers. This allows the students to receive gifted instruction on a daily basis. In these homerooms, instruction will be based on the current Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) grade level curriculum in ELA and Math, plus 25% acceleration into the next year’s content in these areas. In Social Studies and Science, the curriculum will not exceed grade level GSEs. Gifted identified students will also receive an Exploratory time during each day. During the Exploratory time (approximately fifty minutes), a Gifted Support Teacher will provide services to develop critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. The Exploratory period will involve a variety of projects, research, and hands-on activities aimed at deepening student knowledge and guiding them to solve real-world, authentic problems. It is the overall goal of the gifted program to provide greater rigor in the instruction provided for the gifted students.
This year we will be working with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Gifted students. We look forward to working with the students and teachers.
