Henry County Schools are excited to announce the launch of a summer enrichment opportunity for 8th grade students!  Henry County Schools will be offering a summer mathematics camp in order to bridge the gap between 8th grade and 9th grade mathematics.

The Mathematical Minds in the Making (M3) summer enrichment camp is being offered for students needing additional support after the 8th grade.  This opportunity is for rising 9th grade students.  Each student must be identified by the 8th grade mathematics teacher, so students selected will be required to obtain his/her 8th grade teacher’s recommendation in order to participate.  The opportunity is provided to offer students enrichment opportunities and content acceleration in order to ease the transition to Mathematics I (9th grade).

A specific set of criteria to target and identify qualifying students is included in the first attachment.  Basically, students in the 8th grade who have been identified by their parents, counselors, teachers, or administrators as needing additional assistance in order to build foundational skills necessary for success in Math I will be eligible for participation in this mathematics summer camp.

The summer camp will be held on Monday through Thursday from June 7, 2010 through June 30, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  The host sites include Woodland Middle School and Luella Middle School.  At both sites, the students will be involved in remediation of 8th grade standards and acceleration of Unit 1 of Math I (Function Families).  Students will be having fun in performance based classroom environments during the entire learning process.  Students will participate in a rewards program during the summer and will receive prizes for reaching certain goals.  Highly trained, motivated, and excited mathematics teaching experts will be on hand providing rigorous, meaningful, and electrifying learning experiences for students.
