Classic Literature for Children

For our last unit of the year, we will be studying Classic Literature. Each grade level will be examining different children's literature.

First and Second Grade will be examining Fairy Tales. Different versions of the classic fairy tales will be written and performed. Students will be creating puppet shows, and participating in Reader's Theater activities to re-enact stories.

Third Grade is doing an author study on Beverly Cleary. They've selected books by this famous (and favorite!) author, and will be learning about Ms. Cleary and her career. Each student was able to select a story from her vast work and will be reading it over the next few weeks (students are expected to continue reading during the break for CRCT).

Fourth Grade will be working in Literature Circles on various stories they have selected. One group is reading Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl, another group is reading Call It Courage, and a third group is reading Pigs Might Fly. Each group will work on various tasks, and then at the end of the unit, will produce and present a short skit based on their story.

The Fifth Graders are tackling "Romeo and Juliet."
